John Edward Bolen

It is with tremendous sadness that our family announces that John Edward Bolen suddenly passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 76 in Lexington, Alabama.

Born May 14, 1943 to Iona Voncile Moody Bolen and William Solomon Bolen of Lucedale, Mississippi.  John worked duing high school to help support his family and then moved to Huntsville, Alabama where he met his bride.  They later moved to Lexington, Alabama where he resided until his death.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Pat Bolen and his children Chris Bolen, Pamela Bolen Pruet (Michael), and Brian Bolen.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren Chelsea Bolen, Paige Pruet, Cade Bolen, and Pierce Pruet and one great-grandson, Cooper.  Additionally he leaves behind three brothers, Jerald Bolen (Cheryl), David Bolen (Ramona), and Wilburn Bolen and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, his brother, Hilton Bolen, and sister, Annette Taylor (Jay).

John loved his family and was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed “piddling” in his shop, watching his grandchildren in sports and musical performances.  He was a devoted Christian man and active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Lexington, Alabama.

He was known as Big John by many, Paw Paw by a select few and superman by his loving children.  He will be greatly missed.

Due to the pandemic there will be a private graveside service on Monday, May 4, 2020.  Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
