James Edward Mattson, Sr., 69, of Sheffield passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020. He will be interred at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota at a later date.
James was a native of Platte, South Dakota and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War. He was a retired engineer and was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie Mae Mattson; son, Jamie Mattson; brothers, Henry and Ronnie Mattson; and great-aunt, Jeanette Hiemstra.
James is survived by his stepmother, Jane Mattson; children, James Mattson, Jr. (Meghan), Amber Mattson (Justin), Ashley Mattson (Eric), and Stephanie Cost (Eric); sister, Debbie Hamlet (Don) and her 2 sons; grandchildren, Jesse, Emily, Aaron, Jamie, Brody, Chaz, David, Brycen, and Kayla; and best friend, William Caldwell.
