Joe Lewis Davis, age 94 of Cowan, passed away on Tuesday March 17, 2020 at his residence. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Davis was born in Sewanee on July 2, 1925, to the late William Arthur and Perry Viola Morgan. He was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator at Marquette Cement. Mr. Davis was a member of the Greenhaw Baptist church and was the church organist. During his free time he could be found whittling wood, riding motorcycles, or spending time with his family that he loved dearly. He loved to meet his friends at Krystal or take his family up to the Pizza Hut in Monteagle. Mr. Davis had a great sense of humor, and was quoted saying “if I couldn’t make someone laugh, life was not worth living.” In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his children, Mary Ann Prince, Jimmy Ray Davis Sr.; mother of his children, Margaret Davis; grandson, Scotty Davis; and sister, Jean Swafford. He is survived by his brother, Zeke (Linda) Davis of Cowan; grandchildren, Ronnie (Sue) Garner of Cowan, Kandy (Ralph) Johnson of Winchester, Kay Garner Davis of Winchester, Joe Garner of Winchester, Jimmy (Shirley) Ray Jr. of Decherd, Sharon (Keith Stevenson) Miller of Fayetteville, Jeff D. (Angie) Davis of Flintville, Jeffery Davis of Decherd, Marion (Linda) Davis of Decherd, Brandy Garner of Cowan, Sandy Wallace of Cowan; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and best friend, Morgan Smith of Winchester. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday March 19, 2020. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday March 20, 2020 with Rev. John Gipson officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
