, Ralph E. age 75, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on March 8, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his mother Mabel (Sharp) Parker and father Lewis Gipson. He leaves behind his sons Dale (Katie) and Keith (Lacey); grandson Connor; brother Richard Gipson (Charleece).

Ralph was a 1970 graduate of the University of Alabama and an avid, life-long fan of the Crimson Tide.

After receiving a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, he worked in city government. He served as Assistant Mayor under Joe Davis from 1977-1986.

In 1986, Ralph went to work for the Space & Rocket Center and Space Camp. He oversaw the expansion of Space Camp in Huntsville including the addition of Space Academy, Space Academy II, and Aviation Challenge. He was responsible for expanding Space Camp’s U.S. footprint to Florida and California. He also expanded Space Camp internationally. He traveled the world marketing Space Camp and supervising the construction and promotion of new installations. Space Camp had licensed facilities in Belgium, Canada, Japan, Spain and Turkey.

He went to work for CityScapes following his time with Space Camp. There, he worked to revitalize downtown Huntsville overseeing the construction and operation of new condominiums and restaurants, including Humphrey’s and the Chophouse.

He lived life with enthusiasm and passion. Most importantly, he cared about everyone he encountered. Countless friends and acquaintances have shared stories of how he was there when they needed someone.

Because of travel concerns caused by the Covid-19 virus, services will be held at a later date when circumstances permit. We deeply appreciate everyone who has reached-out to us to express their sympathy or to share memories of our Dad. He will be greatly missed.
