FLORENCE-Florence City Board of Education Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Shaw exceeds expectations in his annual evaluation. The Alabama Association of School Boards released the results of the online evaluation during a called school board meeting on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
As part of the AASB superintendent evaluation process, three participant groups were invited to fill out comprehensive survey forms. Those groups included Florence Board of Education members, direct reports to Dr. Shaw, and community stakeholders.
According to AASB, each survey group had similar but different questions. Those questions included topics such as leadership, communications, overall management, and state/local education policy.
A rating scale of 1 (Unsatisfactory) to 5 (Demonstrates Excellence) was used by AASB during the evaluation process. According to the evaluation, Dr. Jimmy Shaw received a rating of 4.3 from members of the Florence Board of Education; direct reports scored Dr. Shaw with a 4.5 rating and community stakeholders gave Dr. Shaw a 4.2 average rating. Each score falls into the Exceeds Expectations rating scale, which is defined as “Performance consistently demonstrates high levels of performance.”
“I am very humbled. To know my peers, in particular who I work with every day, think that you work as hard as you do, and think highly of what you do. It was also good to know that the board and the community are aligned,” stated Dr. Shaw following the meeting. “It has been a very humbling experience.”
