Memorial service for Mr. Robert (“Bobby”) Lavel McDonald will be Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

OBITUARY

Robert (Bobby) Lavel McDonald was born on June 6, 1954 in Washington D.C. He was the second child of Roy and Estella Lovelady McDonald. He fell asleep in death on February 22, 2020, in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bobby began his formal education at Lakeview School in Guntersville, Alabama, followed by Saint Joseph Catholic School and Butler High School in Huntsville. He attended Alabama A&M University, where he was a member of the Marching Maroon and White Band. He also performed with many local bands, including studio bands in the Memphis area.

Bobby worked in the Tech industry in the Silicon Valley for many years as he pursued a musical career. While in California, he became a passionate fan of the San Francisco 49ers Football Team. He returned to Alabama, where he enjoyed annual deep-sea fishing trips to Florida with his choir, became a season ticket holder of the Tennessee Titan Football Team and spent his Saturdays watching Alabama Crimson Tide Football.

Bobby was affiliated with several churches throughout his life, and later found a church home at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville. He enjoyed playing saxophone for various church choirs throughout the city.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Estella Lovelady McDonald and his brother, Kenneth Wayne McDonald.

Bobby is survived by his son, Robert Lavel McDonald, Jr. (lovingly known as Mac) of Huntsville; step-children, Tamara Cutler (Keith) and Justin Childress of Huntsville, and Kimberly Childress of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; cousins, Julia Lovelady Jackson, Alice Lovelady Haley, Faye Wright Gary, and Patricia McAlpin Kimble (Danny) of Gadsden, Alabama; Jacqueline Wright Lewis of Seldon, New York, Olivia Robinson Jones of Conyers, Georgia, and Edwina Robinson Hord of Gary, Indiana; and many extended family members and friends.
