TUSCUMBIA-On Tuesday, February 25 the Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan released a statement concerning an officer involved shooting that took place in the early hours of Tuesday which has resulted in the death of one person:
“At approximately 3:55am this morning, Tuesday, February 25, the Tuscumbia Police Department received a call of a suspicious person banging on doors of multiple apartments at Trenholm Heights Apartments located on Trenholm Memorial Drive.
Officers of the Tuscumbia Police Department were dispatched and arrived on the scene at approximately 4:00am. Officers encountered a subject in the apartment complex and the subject fired on officers. There was an exchange of gunfire at the apartments and the subject ran north from the apartments and once again engaged officers in the area of South Mulberry and 10th Street in Tuscumbia.
One person is deceased and Chief Tony Logan contacted the State Bureau of Investigation to take over the investigation. This is important to make sure that we as a department maintain transparency in these unfortunate incidents.
Any further updates on the investigation will be released from the State Bureau of investigation or the Colbert County District Attorney’s office the appropriate time.”
