Mergie Switcher Duncan, 86, of Rienzi, MS, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center – Tupelo. She was born in Alcorn County, MS on November 27, 1933 to the late Herman and Ruth Bragg Switcher. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and worked for many years as a seamstress. Mergie will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 5-9 pm Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Magnolia Funeral Home and from 1pm till service time Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Union Baptist Church. A celebration of Mergie’s life will be held at 3 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Union Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Raybon Richardson. Pallbearers include Kirk Robinson, Kevin Ellis, Dylan Ellis, Bradley Stephens, Dawson Godsey, Brian Michael, and Wesley Gann. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor Mergie’s memory include her children: Cathleen Praytor and husband Jerry of Cullman, AL, Matthew Duncan and wife Jackie of Red Bay, AL, Joan Jones and husband Jessie of Rienzi, MS, Danny Duncan and wife Kaye of Rienzi, MS and Tina Godsey of Rienzi, MS; her grandchildren: Bobby Smith (DeLena), Christy Ellis (Kevin), Brian Michael, Joey Duncan (Connie), Angel Robinson (Kirk), Tonya Duncan, Heather Gann (Wesley), Whitney Scott (Austin), Kayla Lowery (Kyle), Allyson Gooch (Ryan Hall), Brittany Stephens (Bradley), Tiffany Godsey (Tyler Burgess), and Dawson Godsey; 31 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; her sisters: Shirley Voyles and Myra Hamlin both of Corinth; other relatives and a host of friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Alfred Duncan; her son: Jerry Duncan; and her brothers: Curtis Switcher and Billy Wayne Switcher.
