The funeral service for Rev. James J. Lee, age 63 of Ashland, will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Donald Peterson and Rev. Harold McCain officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope West Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Lee passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at his home. Born in Atlanta Georgia and raised in Rayburn County, Georgia, Mr. Lee had spent the last 33 years living in Clay County. He spent most of his life as a paint mixer at Wellborn Cabinets for 32 years, and spent some of his later years pastoring at different churches in the community. He enjoyed going to church, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Lee is survived by his daughter, Becky Hester (Lee) of Ashland; two sons: Joe Lee (Doris) of Goodwater, and Frank Lee of Ashland; six grandchildren: Brittany Smith, Tiffany Trammell, Lily McVey, Shannon Smith, David Lee, and Randy Hester; one great-grandchild on the way; his mother, Jean Lee of Cragford; one sister, Brenda Whatley (Larry) of Dadeville; four brothers: Martin Lee of Stockbridge, GA, Rev. Robert Lee (Debbie) of Cragford, Mike Lee (Cheryl) of Wedowee, Earl Lee (Dena); plus a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Frank Asa Lee, and his wife of 42 years, Martha E. “Sam” Lee.
Mr. Lee’s pallbearers will be Scott Lee, Tim Lee, Ryan Lee, Paul Lee, Brandon Lee, Rob Lee, Waylon Vowell, Gwendal Auffenburg, and Shannon Smith.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville, and up until service time at 1:00 P.M.
