Douglas Franklin Mackey, age 76 of Dora, AL passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 26, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Eugene Mackey and Annie Olivia Haynie Mackey. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Martha Mackey; beloved daughters, Lisa (Darin) Gilbert and Lynn (Shane) Sanford. He will always be known as “G-Daddy” to his grandchildren, Candace (Taylor) Griffin, Tyler Sanford, Austin (Emily) Sanford, Cody (Chelsea) Gilbert, Cory (Madison) Sanford; great-granddaughter Finlee Griffin; and the two great-grandsons who are expected to be delivered soon. Doug loved his family deeply. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all who were blessed to meet him. Doug graduated from Samford University with a degree in both Business and Accounting. He retired from Jefferson County. He was a member of the Jefferson County Cattleman’s Association. He raised many breeds of cattle but the Charla breed were his favorite. Doug was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Credit Union for over 15 years. Services will be held Friday, November 29, 2019 at New Horizon Funeral Home, Dora, AL. Visitation from 12-2 pm.
