Ricky Young “Whiz” Whisenant, 45, of Hazel Green, passed away on Monday. He had an amazing sense of humor and he was always the life of the party and kept everyone laughing. Ricky loved fishing, was a huge Alabama Football and Dallas Cowboys fan, and his children were his pride and joy.
He was part of the Hazel Green High School class of 1992 and worked for Ready Mix Concrete in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Richards; His step-mom, Connie Whisenant; His niece, Kennedy Richards; His grandparents: Boyd Young Whisenant and Juanita Whisenant.
Surviving family members include his children: Dylan Young Whisenant and his wife, Samantha, Danielle Whisenant, Skyler Ellison, and Mason Ellison; His sisters, Melissa Whisenant S. and Brooke Martin; His brother, Blake Pruett; His parents, Lawrence Young Whisenant and Pat Petty; His nephews: Colby Stewart, Gavin Stewart, Aaron Richards, Chandler Richards; His niece, Lissa Stoltz, Shelby Richards.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 to 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be Friday at 2pm at the funeral home with Bro. Ricky Lowery officiating. Burial will follow the service and will be in Concord Cemetery.
