Sherrie Elizabeth Townsend age 64 of Gurley, AL went home to Heaven.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Fred Townsend, Tonya Townsend Sturm (Daughter), Kenneth Ray Townsend (Son), Kaitlyn Lowery (Granddaughter), Alex Grooms (Grandson), Colby Frisbee (Grandson), Whitney Townsend (Granddaughter) and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Singleton.
Mrs. Townsend was born in Huntsville and was a native of Gurley, AL. She served 16 years as a US Army wife. She was also a member of Shipps Baptist Church.
Both wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother left a positive impression on everyone she met. She had a bright soul with a big heart. To know her was to love her. She was an extraordinary woman and will be dearly missed by all. She had ways of making you understand what was going on around you. She also had a way to comfort the sad. She taught patience, the definition of resiliency and perseverance. She was a fighter and never gave up on life. She had survived breast cancer and lately lung cancer. She never let anyone think that anything was wrong because she didn’t want people to worry about her. She was not only our mom, but our best friend and at times our partner in crime. She was a guiding light when we got lost and always helped us find our way back.

There will be a small service at Shipps Baptist Church, Wednesday, September 25 at 6 PM.
