Virginia Self Fowler, age 85 of Huntsville passed away August 28, 2019. She is survived by her brother Deemer O. Self (Jimmie); sister in-law Lucy Self; son in-law Ed Blankenship; 2 grandchildren Kevin Blankenship and Jason Blankenship (Katie Silvia); and 3 great-grandchildren Bodhi Blankenship, Iris Blankenship, and Homer Samuel Blankenship.

She is preceded in death by her father Carl Self, mother Elizabeth Self, husband Robert Fowler, daughter Charlotte Diane Blankenship, and brother James Self.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Toney, AL. She attended Hazel Green high school and continued her education at the University of Florence State with a degree in home economics. She soon realized her love for education and returned to school to receive a degree in elementary education. Following graduation, she utilized her passion for the classroom in the Ardmore school system for 28 years. Soon after, she moved to Huntsville and continued her work with children at Whitesburg Baptist Church preschool for 12 years. She was a compassionate and caring teacher, not only to her students, but also her family. Her faith in Jesus was prevalent with each action and word. After retirement, she found joy in her family, church, and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to all.

Visitation is Saturday, August 31, 2019, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor John Pond. Burial will be in Gatlin C
