THE SHOALS-On Wednesday, September 4, at 9:30 am at McFarland Park in Florence, five local school districts will be receiving a wonderful gift from the Greenway Automotive dealerships: Seven automobiles will be given to the schools for immediate use in their Driver Education classes.

Two vehicles will be given to the Colbert County School System; Two vehicles will be given to the Lauderdale County School

System; One vehicle will be given to the Florence City School System; One vehicle will be given to the Muscle Shoals City School System; One vehicle will be given to the Tuscumbia City Schools.

The vehicles, which include cars from Chevrolet, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia, are valued in excess of $105,000 and are being given, 100%, to the schools.

Casey Coffey

Casey Coffey, who operates and oversees all of Greenway Automotive commented, “We are truly excited about making this gift to our local high schools’ Driver Education programs. What’s really great about this for the schools is that the cars aren’t loaner cars or rentals or leases for a limited period of time – these seven vehicles will now be owned entirely by the schools and they will be able to utilize them at their discretion for however long they choose.”

David DeSantis

David DeSantis, General Manager at Greenway Toyota of the Shoals added, “Last year, we donated a car to the Sheffield City School District, a Toyota Camry. That vehicle is still in service, so you might say they got a little head start last year. This year, with all that our dealerships are doing with our new name and our new way of doing business, we decided to really expand on this program and go from one vehicle to seven.”

One Driver Education instructor shared a very special benefit of receiving the vehicle for his school this year. He commented that he has a student with a disability and the special needs of this student require a Driver Education vehicle with hand controls for braking and accelerating since the student cannot use their feet for this purpose. One of the vehicles has been earmarked for this special upgrade, an upgrade that would not be possible on the older vehicles in the Driver Education program.

Superintendents from the School Districts, along with Greenway management, members of the press and invited guests will be at McFarland Park on Wednesday, September 4, at 9:30 am for the official presentation and photo opportunities.

Greenway of the Shoals operates 7 local dealerships with 12 automotive brands:
