Mrs. Dhue Frances Markham Karr, age 90, of Beaverton, AL, formerly of the Byrd Community near Detroit, AL, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at The Carrington Nursing Facility in Starkville, MS. She was born July 14, 1929 to the late John Thomas and Gera Davidson Markham in Detroit, AL. She attended Detroit Elementary and Sulligent High School. In 1947 she married W. L. Karr, Jr. and shared 53 years of marriage until his death in October 2000. A homemaker and partner in her husband’s farming pursuits, she was a member of the Detroit United Methodist Church and later the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a friend and neighbor to all.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gera Markham; her husband, W. L. Karr, Jr.; three brothers, Meredith Markham and wife Elsie, James Markham and wife Katie, and Max Markham; sisters-in-law, Anna Loys Markham, Geleta Karr Harbor and husband Don, Maudine Karr Thompson and husband Sam; brothers-in-law, Billie B. Mixon, Gordon Burns and Billy Joe Karr; a niece, Laura Beth Markham Sprye and nephew Gerald Mixon.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Karr Hughes and husband Gerald of Beaverton, AL; three granddaughters, Lisa Hughes Tomlin and husband Bill of Starkville, MS, Karen Hughes Covington and husband Richard of Batesville, MS and Susan Hughes Lassetter and husband Michael of Starkville, MS; great-grandchildren; William Hughes Tomlin, Elizabeth Grace Tomlin, Hugh Drake Covington, Caroline Suzanne Covington, Henry Arthur Lassetter and Baby Lassetter who is expected to arrive on July 24, 2019; a brother, Fred Markham of Sulligent, AL; sisters, Virginia Mixon of Sulligent, AL and Ruth Burns of Woodstock, AL; a sister-in-law, Libby Karr of Lineville, AL, and many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.

The funeral service with Rev. Roger Redus officiating will be held at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, with burial to follow in Rudicell Cemetery near Detroit, AL.

Pallbearers will be Bill Tomlin, William Tomlin, Richard Covington, Hugh Covington, Michael Lassetter and Brente Jeffreys
