Mr. Larry Edward Kirkland, 70, of Scottsboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville surrounded by his family.
He was born December 18, 1948, at Hodges Hospital in Scottsboro to Virginia and Herschel Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet Harris Kirkland. Other survivors are his son, Clint (Francy) Kirkland, and daughter, Carrie (Jason) Blount. Grandchildren are Brandon and Cole Kirkland and William and Owen Blount, all of Huntsville. Surviving siblings are Randy, Billy, and Mike (Pam) Kirkland, Judy (Steve) Wigley, and Angie Presley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry graduated from Scottsboro High School in 1967 and attended junior college as well as extensive insurance courses. Larry volunteered into the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and retired after 35 years of service, always proud to be a veteran. He served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and the Global War on Terrorism. Larry’s career was in insurance, recently retiring from Alfa. He was also a deacon at First Baptist Church and served as a trustee. He was a Mason. Larry served on the Scottsboro City Council. He was a devoted family man who loved attending events that involved his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Scottsboro with Rev. Shandy Dill and Dr. Tim Lovett officiating. Interment will follow at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.
