Mrs. Eudora Kay Rutherford Shelton, 80, died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at North MS Medical Center Hospice following a brief illness. She was born February 3, 1939 in Tippah County, MS, to the late Lucian G. Rutherford and Margaret Bryant Rutherford. She was a graduate of Faulkner High School and earned an Associate Degree from Northeast Junior College. Kay married Boyce Shelton on March 1, 1958 in Ripley, MS. She worked as a Sales Auditor, employed by J.C. Penney’s for 27 years and Sanctuary Hospice for the past 6 years, a job she dearly loved.
Kay was a master cook, enjoyed collecting coins, loved her work, and enjoyed keeping her house tidy. She had a dry sense of humor. Kay loved her family and was a devoted Christian lady who had a beautiful relationship with Jesus and was a steadfast prayer warrior. An active and faithful member of First Baptist Church, she loved cooking on Wednesday nights and encouraging everyone. She loved her cat, Meow and was a doting wife, mother and grandmother.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS, with Bro. Matt Powell, Bro. Ricky Young, and Bro. Randy Wood officiating. A graveside service with Bro. Jack Bennett officiating will follow at 4:30 PM in Little Hope Cemetery, Tippah County, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon to service time at the church. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel is honored to be serving their friends.
Survivors include her husband, Boyce Shelton of Tupelo; 2 daughters, Christy Shelton of Tupelo and Janet Abel (Kevin) of Saltillo; siblings, Orville Rutherford (Shirley) of Huron, Ohio, Edna Miller (James) of Ripley, Oleta Butler of New Albany, and Don Rutherford (Liz) of South Amherst, Ohio; 3 grandchildren who lovingly called her Maw Maw, Taylor Deaton, Cameron Deaton, and Jody Patterson; 1 great grandchild, Deavon Deaton; numerous nieces, nephews and other near relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Glee, Lee, Troy and 2 sisters, Lucille Moretta and Frankie Gillard.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Taylor, Cameron, and Jody; nephews, Rusty Thorson, Will Rutherford, and Jason Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Moore Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
