Funeral services for Jack Graben, age 82 of Barfield, will be held at Barfield Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 am with Brother John Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Graben was born to John Graben and Eddith (Britt) Graben on August 11, 1936, in Clay County. He died peacefully at his home early Monday morning, June 17, 2019.
He married his wife Joan when he was 20 and soon after they began raising their family. He provided for them by working on the railroad, as security at Wellborn, driving a school bus and was known to sell a car or two. He loved to garden and help others, usually working six days a week but always made sure to give God Sunday.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joan Graben of Barfield; one daughter, Pam Graben of Lineville; three sons, Phillip Graben (Tina) of Lineville, Paul D. Graben of Lineville and Patrick Graben of Sylacauga; six grandchildren, Dexter Graben of Ragsdale, Kaylee Graben of Oxford, India Hughes (Andrew) of Lineville, Josh Smith of Lineville, JoAnna Smith (Jaylon Lyles) of Oxford and M.J. Ballard of Lineville; four great-grandchildren, Ankhor Hughes, Harbor Hughes, Island Hughes and Oaklee Graben; two sisters, Carolyn Smith of Lineville and Helen Norred (John) of Ashland.
The pallbearers will include his grandsons and church members and his Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 5:00 until 8:00 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at Barfield Baptist Church.
