On the afternoon of June 4th, 2019, Dorothy Wilson of Arab, passed away at the age of 88.
Mrs. Wilson was born to Frederick James Southgate and Dora Frances Brill of Maryland in 1930. The youngest of five children, Mrs. Wilson lived in Tacoma Park, Maryland and graduated from high school with further education in the field of stenography. In March of 1951, she married Mr. Edwin Lee Wilson, and together raised two sons, Barry and Keith. Mrs. Wilson volunteered at her sons’ grade, middle, and high schools as a librarian, Cub Scout leader, and Red Cross representative, and Arab Police department. Additionally, Mrs. Wilson worked for the Huntsville City Schools, and as a secretary for a psychologist.
Mrs. Wilson belonged to Huntsville’s Welcome Wagon, Bridge Club, andSki Club, and enjoyed square dancing and ice skating. Mrs. Wilson was an avid reader, who loved to travel; collect post cards; and play cards with friends and family.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, and her eldest son, Barry Wilson of Madison, AL. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 68 years, Mr. Edwin Lee Wilson of Arab, her youngest son, Mr. Keith Wilson and wife Pamela of Austin, TX, Mr. Barry Wilson’s widow, Cyndi, a grandson Mr. Jackson Wilson and wife Danica and their two children, and granddaughter Ms. Megan Wilson of Ft Lauderdale, FL. Mrs. Wilson also has numerous surviving cousins, nephews, and nieces, and their families.
Honoring her request, Mrs. Wilson did not want a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to your local public library. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
