Charles Wendell “Buddy” Rushing, 78, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Lakeview Place at Countrywood Manor in Mantachie. A lifelong resident of Mantachie, Buddy was born October 6, 1940, to Clay and Alice Ray Farrar Rushing. He was 1959 graduate of Mantachie High School. He worked at Rockwell (Delta) for 45 and a half years. He was a member of Center Star Independent Methodist Church where he served as pastor for 33 and a half years. He trained and showed quarter horses, halter, and pleasure horses, which won many championships. He was a farrier and trained several young men to be farriers and blacksmiths. He also judged and announced horse shows. He was an avid gardener and cattle farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. David “E.T.” Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Cooper Rushing; one daughter, Wendy Gay Kyle; two grandsons, Drew Kyle (Brooke) and Brett Kyle (Mimi); one great-grandchild, Alyssa Kyle; a foster son, Jason Kyle; one step-daughter, Amy Cooper; and one step-son, Wilton Cooper (Sheryl), all of Mantachie; his step-grandchildren, Mazzie, Autumn, Caroline, and Kadence Cooper; one brother, Bro. Danny Rushing (Vicki) of Tupelo; two sisters, Sue Abernethy of Tupelo and Coleen Vlach of Madison; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Rushing and Nan Rusoe, both of Mantachie; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald Rushing.
Pallbearers will be David Brown, Harvey Brooks, Donny Jones, Brian Rushing, Ray Smith, Billy Tabler, Dennis Upton, and Ronald Wesson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
