A graveside service for John Fuller Walters, Sr. will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, May 30th at 11:00 am. Rev. John Adams will officiate the service.
John Fuller Walters, Sr. was born to John and Victoria (Wade) Walters January 21, 1932, in Wilmington, North Carolina. His work on earth is done and he went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 27, 2019. He died peacefully at his daughter’s home, in Anniston, Alabama, after living a full life and battling cancer.
John graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was part of the boys’ basketball team that won the state championship in 1951. He always enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball.
On May, 20, 1955, he was married to Beuna Pharris in San Antonio, Texas. They lived the first 18 years of their marriage in Florida, where John worked for Publix Super Market. Upon retirement from Publix, the family of 6 moved to a peach farm in Ashland, Alabama where John grew peaches for 30 years. John and Beuna retired and moved from Ashland to Anniston, Alabama in 2005.
Before moving to Florida, John served 3 years in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Bowden Grove Baptist Church and subsequently Liberty Baptist Church, both in Ashland, Alabama. He was active until his failing health prevented his participation but remained steadfast in his faith.
His family says he always tried to do what was right, was one of the hardest working people they ever knew, and he was a Godly man that loved his family and neighbors and loved loving the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beuna, and his sisters Edith Clark, Katherine Shipman, Blanche Walsh, and brother Ralph Stewart.
Survivors include four children: Betty Holbrook (Leo), John Walters, Constance Esposito (Frank), and Bonita Overshon (Michael); five grandchildren: Matthew Holbrook, Randi Seabourne (Brian), Kelli Godfrey (Davy), Stacy Blair (Benji), and Summer Jennings (Cody); and 8 great-grandchildren: Curtis, Mikayla, Marlee, Davan, Raven, Savannah, Rickey, and Finn.
