F.4.28.19 Ruby Shuey.jpgRuby Jewel Grissom Barnes Harris Shuey, 78, of Florence, AL, formerly of Tariffville, CT, died Wednesday, April 24, 2019, after a brief illness with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Mrs. Shuey donated her body to the Anatomical Donor Program at The University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A celebration of her life was held on La Grange Mountain on April 20, 2019.

Mrs. Shuey was born in Leighton, Alabama and was a graduate of Sheffield High School. Mrs. Shuey spent the first 40 years of her life in N.W. Alabama. She met and married her husband, Merlin A. Shuey and moved to Tariffville, CT. She lived there until his death in 2017. Mrs. Shuey was the co-founder of the Connecticut Chronic Pain Outreach Network.

She is survived by three daughters, Belynda Barnes Taylor, Florence, AL, Beth Barnes Ables (Jack) Hazel Green AL, and Chris Barnes Russell (Dennis), Florence, AL.

Also survived by three stepdaughters, Dawn Shuey Luce (Chris), Kensington CT, Jacque Harris Lunsford (Doug) Montgomery, AL, and Sherie Harris Lawrence (John), Jonesboro, AR; two stepsons, Randy Shuey (Manuela), Epsom, NH, Ray Shuey (Tammy), Newington, CT; two sisters, Betty Jackson, Oneonta, AL, Susie Minor (Jerry), Toney, AL; 11 grandchildren, Lauren Taylor, Mackynzie Taylor, Johnathan Gladden, Daniel Gladden (Sam), Brian Russell, Chelsea Shuey, Evan Shuey, Aidan Shuey, Ashley Rose, Lexie McCandless (Steven), and Kayla Lazarowski ; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Merlin A. Shuey, Bud Barnes, and Jack Harris; parents, Reverend Emmett and Sarah Lee Grissom; and son-in-law, Jasper W. Russell.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Leukemia Society.
