Ms. Louise Whitmire West, 98, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019 at her home in Tupelo. MS. She was born and raised in Choctaw County, MS, the daughter and oldest of six children born to Wesley and Cora Taylor Whitmire. She retired from the Department of the Army as a Publications Assistant at Fort Huachuca, Arizona to live in Collierville, TN. She moved to Tupelo in 2010 to live near her granddaughter, Cindy Ballard.
Louise was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing anything including a small peach orchard in her backyard from the pits of peaches she had especially enjoyed eating. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, reading, her daily crossword puzzle, and she played a mean game of scrabble.
She is survived in death by her three children, Carolyn Stricklin of Millington, TN, Martha Boyer of Odenville, AL, and Bill West (Charlotte) of Vashon, WA; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
A private family burial will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Choctaw County, MS. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be posted at hollandfuneraldirectors.com.
