Herbert Wayne Wilson – Obituary

Herbert Wayne Wilson, 84, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at the Methodist Healthcare in Memphis, TN. He was born July 20, 1934, in Aberdeen, MS, to Douglas and Momie Pearce Wilson. He retired in 1999, after 30 years with the Memphis City Schools, where he was in Board of Education Research and he taught band. He had been director of music for Frayser Baptist Church in Memphis. He was accomplished in music, and could play 22 different musical instruments.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, April 10, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Royce Hawkins officiating. Private burial be in Stephens Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Alice Ray Wilson of Germantown; one daughter, Veda Ann Wilson of Portland, Oregon; two sons, Herbert Wilson, Jr., and James Sullivan Wilson, both of Germantown; two granddaughters, Katelynn Wilson and Elizabeth Wilson.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Wilson; and two brothers, Dr. Douglas Wilson and an infant brother; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
