Earnest Thomas Sargent, age 91, of Cordova, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Sargent was a great man of God that pastored for 49 years.  He retired from US Steel in 1979 after 33 years.  He was a devoted man of God who cherished his family and friends.  He will be remembered by many for a favorite question he liked to ask, “Do you know the Lord, do you go to church?”  If they said no he would ask why not, and say “I know a place, if you ain’t got nowhere to go.”  Then he’d sing them a little song.  He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Dovertown Freewill Baptist Church, he will lie in state from 12:00 p.m until 1:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Dovertown Community Cemetery.  Donnie Dodd will officiate.
