The funeral service for Larry Leroy McVey, age 62 of Cragford, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Tim Tipton and Bro. Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. McVey passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Clay County Hospital. He was a native and life-long resident of Clay County and had worked as a logger and skidder operator for McVey Logging. Mr. McVey was also a carpenter and outdoorsman who just loved being outside, whether he was farming or riding his 4-wheeler.
He is survived by two sons: Jamie McVey (Jennifer) and Jerry McVey (Brittny), both of Mellow Valley; his mother, Mary Faye McVey of Cragford; six grandchildren: Breanna, Jordan, MaKenlee, Kate, Avery and Corban McVey; three sisters: Norma Owens, Martha Price (Gary) and Sandra Crawford, all of Cragford; five brothers: Marvin McVey (Virginia) of Lineville, Johnny McVey (Sheila) of Wadley, Ricky McVey (Rhonda) of Cragford, Joe McVey of Ashland and Troy McVey of Cragford plus a large extended family.
Mr. McVey was preceded in death by his father, Bill Meredith McVey and three brothers: Ray, Pete and Charles McVey.
Kevin Costley, Jonathan McVey, Wendell Waldrop, Jason Meigs, Joshua Jordan and Joey Crawford will serve as pallbearers. Staff members of the Hospice of Clay County will serve as honorary pallbearers.
