John Dee Burns of Hartselle died on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born September 13, 1940, in Morgan County to James Dyrias Burns and Francis Shaneyfelt Burns, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Morgan County High School, He attended Athens State College and R.G. LaTourneau College in Longview, Texas. He became a manager of the Hartselle Piggly Wiggly Store and later owned two Piggly Wiggly Stores in Winfield, Alabama.
After he retired he attended the Coast Guard Academy in Pensacola and gained his Captains’ License. A committed sailor, he sailed the Gulf as well as the bays of Pensacola and Perdido. As a farmer of Cedar Cove, John enjoyed being a part of all God’s creation.

As a member of the First United Methodist Church he especially enjoyed his work with the Good Samaritan Ministry. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, of Hartselle United Methodist Church, in lieu of flowers.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship.
