Dr. Patrick Hyland, age 65, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 5:35 p.m. at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. After a long battle of a rare cancerous sarcoma tumor, he is at peace with our Lord.
Patrick Hyland was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 20, 1953 to Dr. Norman D. Hyland and Barbara E. (Lee) Hyland. He attended Little Flower Catholic School through 8th grade. He graduated from McGill lnstitute (High School) in 1971. Dr. Hyland was Summa Cum Laude at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Patrick Hyland was a graduate of the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1979. He completed a Pediatric Medicine Residency in Birmingham. He has been in practice in Jasper, Alabama with Dr. Richard Dabbs since 1984 serving hundreds in the community until his untimely death.
He met his dear wife Linda Burns in Birmingham, AL, and they were married in August 1981. Patrick Hyland is the loving husband of Linda Burns, the father of Kathleen (Hyland) Byrnes, and the father- in- law of John J. Byrnes, Jr. He is survived by his brothers Lawrence Hyland and Dr. Richard Hyland. He is the uncle to John Hyland, Carrie Hyland, Dennis Hyland, Melonie Hyland, Michael Hyland, Julie Hyland, Brooke Mahady, Jennifer Friedman, Jonathan Friedman, Brandy Friedman, Samantha Williams, and Rebecca Watkins. He was the great uncle to Hannah Hyland, Alexandria Hyland, Rosalee Hyland, Marielle Hyland, Dominic Hyland, Kieran McAtansey, and Gabriella Watkins. Dr. Patrick Hyland is loved by many family and friends.
Dr. Hyland showed love to others through his service. He was strong in his faith and was a faithful member at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. His service included choir director, cantor, religious instructor, and gardener. He was dedicated to the care of his patients. He loved cooking fantastic meals for his family. Dr. Hyland had an amazing sense of humor that brought light to any situation. He loved the Lord, his family, and good company with friends. Patrick Hyland will be dearly missed by his family and community. The family appreciates your continual prayers and support at this time. ln lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Jasper and the University of Alabama
in Birmingham to the Melanoma Research Fund for cancer research for Sarcoma.
There will be a public viewing on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Jasper, AL. An additional viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. All services will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.
