The funeral service for Jimmy Ray Higgins, age 67 of Lineville, will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Christiana Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Griffin, Bro. Freddie Dean and Rev. Ronnie Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Higgins passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was a graduate of Lineville High School, Class of 1969. Mr. Higgins was employed as an engineer for CSX Railroad for 35 years and was a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard. He was an avid golfer and when he wasn’t working, he loved to spend time at home with his family, his grandbabies and his dogs, Lulu and Roxie. Mr. Higgins was a member of Christiana Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of over 46 years (and forever), Jo Ann Higgins of Lineville; two daughters: Jodi Leigh Yates (Danny) and Kelly Taylor Kunkle, both of Lineville; one Goddaughter, Julie Poe (Ryan) of Ashland; four grandchildren: Garrett Wayne Yates and Peighton Claire Kunkle, both of Lineville and Madison Williams and Susie Poe, both of Ashland; three sisters: Patricia Johnson and Patsy Higgins, both of Lineville and Rita Adams (Ronnie) of Delta and his doggies, Lulu and Roxie.
Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, Solon Lee Higgins and Mary Glen Taylor Higgins and two brothers, Randy Higgins and Kenneth Higgins.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: Jason Headrick, Jarrod Headrick, Kevin Adams, Shane Adams Christian Higgins, Joey Higgins, Cody Higgins, Frip Haynes, Steven Yates, Micah Yates, Tommy Denson and Timmy Denson.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Higgins will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
