Judy Lynn Berkowitz – Obituary

Judy Lynn Berkowitz, 61, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday after fighting ovarian cancer for 7 years.  Mrs. Berkowitz was born in East Chicago, Indiana, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.  In her early career she owned her own retail business.  Later in Huntsville, she was HR and Finance manager at Holy Spirit School and at St. John the Baptist in Madison.  She was a member of Good Shepherd parish and was the co-manager of the Shepherd’s Nook giftshop.  She volunteered her time and talent with other charitable organizations including Lilies of the Valley and Clearview Cancer Institute.  Judy was an avid sports fan.  She and her husband, David, attended many sporting events, especially Chicago Cubs and Texas Longhorns games, visited all MLB Stadiums, and traveled to many pro golf tournaments.  Judy loved traveling, family time, gardening and golf.  Judy supported numerous educational charities including two endowed scholarships at UAH.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, David Berkowitz; mother, Mary Lou Ardelean of Charleston, SC; sisters, Elizabeth Stropki (John)of Solon, OH and Luci Jeanne Flaherty of Thousand Oaks, CA; brothers, James Ardelean (Cheryl) of Westerville, OH and George Ardelean of Madison, MS; 10 nieces; 6 nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A rosary service will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.  A funeral mass will follow with Father Phil O’Kennedy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Judy requested that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or the Temple B’nai Sholom.
