Frank P. Gasper, 81, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2nd. Born in Horicon, Wisconsin and raised in Hustisford, Wisconsin, he moved to Huntsville in 1953, graduated from Huntsville High School in 1955, and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1963 with bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Fraternities. He worked for the U.S. Government for over 35 years at Redstone Arsenal, where he worked on key defense systems, was registered as a Professional Engineer and retired as a Chief Engineer of the Technical Management Division, U.S. Army Missile Command in 1992. He received many awards there, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He was an avid outdoorsman and embraced many sports and activities, i.e., hunting, fishing, motorcycles, archery, camping, photography, fly-tying, and exploring the streams of the Smoky Mountains.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Coward Gasper; sons, Stephen Gasper (Paula) of Houston, TX, and David Gasper (Dawn) of Saint Amant, LA; daughter, Lynne Day (Casey) of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren, Casey Turbeville, Colton Gasper (Natalie), Claire Gasper, Brandon Gasper (Angela), Kimberly Stellmach (Scott), Meagan Rose and Ashley Day; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charlene Gasper of Colleyville, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, LTC Frank J. and Elizabeth B. Gasper and his brother, John B. Gasper of Colleyville, TX.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to a charity of your choice.
