Patricia Gail Bailey Pennington “MawMaw,” a long-time resident of Decatur, passed away Tuesday the 20th of November at WellStar Hospital in Douglasville, Georgia.
Born in 1937 in Bessemer, Alabama, Gail received a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Alabama and taught second grade at Eastwood Elementary School in Decatur in the mid-1960s.
In a career shift, Gail served as Food Services Director for First Baptist Church in Decatur where she worked until her retirement.
Married in 1959, Gail, an avid University of Alabama fan, loved cooking and enjoyed activities with family and friends; especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, David P. Pennington; son, David A. Pennington and wife, Becky; daughter, Lisa Pennington; grandchildren, Bryan Pennington and wife, Danielle and Brandon Pennington and great-grandchildren, Asher and Finn Pennington.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on December 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or First Baptist Church of Decatur.
