The funeral service for Rose Lumpkin, age 81 of Delta, will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Bob Bain officiating. Burial will follow in the Black’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Lumpkin passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at her home. She was a native of Center, North Dakota and as a military spouse had lived in various places in the U.S. before settling in Clay County in 1972. Mrs. Lumpkin had been the manager of the Value Mart in Lineville; she also owned and operated her own income tax service. Rose enjoyed her years working at Value Mart and also enjoyed putting on the family’s Christmas, riding the four-wheeler and spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her husband of 65 years, Claude Lumpkin of Delta; one daughter, Karol Lumpkin Waters (Terry) of Lineville; one son, Tommy Lumpkin of Delta; three brothers: Bill Etherington (Bernice) and Jack Etherington, both of North Dakota and Walt Etherington of South Dakota; five grandchildren: Michael Waters (Shannon), Mark Waters (Jessica), David Lumpkin (Natalia), Daniel Burton (Angelina) and Sarah Burton Wrightson (Chris) and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank Etherington and Ruth Hickle Etherington; two daughters: Enola Lumpkin Burton and Jayne Lumpkin Penland; one daughter-in-law, Lori Lumpkin; two sisters: Jean Krank and Alice Hutchinson and one brother, Frank Etherington.
Pallbearers will be Michael Waters, Mark Waters, Daniel Burton, Chris Wrightson, Wayne Ford and Joseph Koch.
