The funeral service for Mr. Silvy Johnston, age 74 of Shinbone Valley, will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with William Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Johnston passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. A native and life-long resident of Shinbone Valley, he was a carpenter by trade and had worked for a number of years for Ricky Pinkston. Silvy loved the outdoors, fishing and gardening. He was a Christian who enjoyed studying the Bible but was also an avid fan of NASCAR and Alabama football.
Mr. Johnston is survived by three sons: Silvy Johnston Jr., Bruce Johnston (Susan), both of Prattville and Kelly Johnston of Virginia; two sisters: Mary Ware of Salem, AL and Faye Griffith of Union Grove, AL; one brother, Ruben Johnston (Linda) of Ohatchee; his special niece, Cheryl Williams (Ricky) of Ashland; his partner in mischief, William Johnston; his neighbor and friend, Ricky Pinkston (Kathy), both of Shinbone Valley; 12 grandchildren and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ruben Samuel Johnston and Ruth Costella Ingram; one son, Charles Johnston; three brothers: Sam Johnston, Willis Johnston and Sidney Johnston.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
