James “Jim” Basil Alvis, Jr., age 87, of Arab, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at her residence.
Mr. Alvis was born on February 5, 1931 in Cullman to Mr. James Basil Alvis, Sr. & Pearl Bryant Alvis. He was in telecommunications and retired from National Weather Bureau. Mr. Alvis enjoyed reading specifically about history and enjoyed history programs on tv.
He was a member of Joppa United Methodist Church.
Mr. Alvis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine I. Scott-Alvis; daughters and son-in-law, Beverly Berry, Barbara Crews, Georgia Alvis Long & Edward; son, Michael Alvis; grandchildren, David Berry, Eric Berry & Katherine, Chris Crews; great grandchild, Sebastian Berry. Preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Bryant Howell; father, James B. Alvis, Sr.; brothers, Bill Alvis & Harold Alvis.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Joppa United Methodist Church with Bro. Billy Vaughn, officiating. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel assisting the family.
