John Cooper SweatmanJohn Cooper Sweatman, age 63, passed away Monday October 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey June 7, 1955 to the late Nancy Conrad Sweatman and William Henry Sweatman. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey in 1973. He continued his studies at Wake Forest University, where he graduated in 1977 with a degree in Chemistry and a Regular Army commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. He began a lifetime career in service to his country as an Army officer (retired LTC), government contractor (BAE Systems) and in civil service with the Missile Defense Agency.

John was a giving person who was always looking for ways to make life better for others and taught all those who knew him lessons of love. He was devoted to the Sermon Topics Sunday school class at Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as a class president and teacher. He also taught middle school Sunday school classes, as well as youth group and confirmation classes. He spent many volunteer hours on mission trips. In addition to his service to the church, John gave of his time, talent and resources to Greengate School. He served on the Greengate School board and worked on the merger with Randolph School.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Judy; his daughter Cooper Evans (Michael); the Harnden-Larsen family and extended family and friends. Many thanks to Hospice Family Care for their support during this difficult time.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of John Sweatman will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greengate School at Randolph in memory of John Sweatman.
