F.9.27.18 George Finley.jpgGeorge Patrick Finley, 87, of Sheffield, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. A visitation will be held 10 a.m. to noon today, September 27, 2018 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Reverend Bill Bedsole will officiate.

He was a native of Hoxie, Arkansas and had lived most of his life in the Shoals area. He was a retired accountant with Reynolds Metals. He was a member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church. Mr. Finley was very active in the church, helping on mission trips and was former minister of visitation. He was member of the Emmaus Chapter participating on numerous Emmaus Walks and sponsored others in the Emmaus Walk. He was director of WVNA Methodist Men’s Hour for many years. He was a U.S. Marine veteran having served during the Korean War. He started a marine choir that traveled to Hollywood to perform in a variety show.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Finley; brothers, Joseph, Sloan, Billy Gene, and Arto Finley; sister, Mary Elizabeth Hubbell; and his wife of 67 years, Margaret Turner Finley.

Survivors are his son, Gene Patrick Finley (Eglee’); daughter, Cathy Farris (Doug); grandchildren, Bryan Farris (Joni), Lisa Rogers (Michael), Kathriel Finley and great-grandchildren, Myles Rogers, Natalie Rogers, Rebecca Tumlinson and Nate Tumlinson; and special friend, Bettye O’Steen.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hubbell, Bryan Farris, Michael Rogers, Donald Wayne Elliott, Benny Burns and Doug Farris.

Special thanks to the staff of Morningside Assisted Living, Amedysis Hospice, Joan Curtis and all the sitters who helped with his care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sheffield First United Methodist Church.

Pat was one of the finest people I ever knew. He was a wonderful Christian, devoted family man and a solid citizen.
