The funeral service for Avis Gail Lindsey Ford Deese, age 82 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lineville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dorothy Ann Webster and Rev. Holly Woodall officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Deese passed away in her home on August 24, 2018 among many family members. A native of Hightower, AL in Cleburne County, she moved to Lineville in the early 1950’s and worked as a seamstress, raised chickens and drove a school bus for the Clay County School System. In 1971 Mrs. Deese started Gail’s Florist and continued to run the successful shop until one week prior to her death. She was a member of the Lineville First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Deese is survived by one son, S. Wayne Ford (Lisa) of Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Wanda F. Heard of Lafayette, LA; two sisters: Mildred L. Grizzard (Bill) of Reeltown and Christi L. Hendrix (Rick) of Pelham; six grandchildren: Warren Heard (Naomi) of Mobile, Joy Comer (Matt) of East Bend, NC, Jennifer Horn (Walter) of Center, TX, Roy Heard (Jodie) of Dill City, OK, Forrest Ford of Atlanta, GA and Hunter Ford of Tuscaloosa, AL; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 special great-grandchildren: JT and Kinlee Wilkerson and her dearest friend, Martha “Bay” Hearn of Lineville.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl Lindsey and Lela Hanson Lindsey; her former husband, Kermit Ford; her husband Jerry Deese, two brothers: Wallace and Wendell Lindsey and one sister, Sue Matthews.
Pallbearers will be Warren Heard, Roy Heard, Forrest Ford, Hunter Ford, Jacob Wilkerson and Stanley Ford.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville. Mrs. Deese will lie in state for one hour at the church prior to the service.
