Betty Henry O’Conner, of Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of 79. Her visitation will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother George Henley and Brother Richard Parker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Betty was born on May 18, 1939 in Livingston County, Kentucky, and married her husband, Ray, in 1956. She was a Christian and a member of Hook Street Baptist Church in Tuscumbia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Marion Bebout Henry; and one brother, Carl Henry.
Betty’s survivors include her loving husband, Ray O’Conner with whom she would have celebrated 62 years of marriage in September; her sisters, Anna Marie Perryman of Melber, Kentucky and Mary Jean Churchill of Tuscumbia; daughters, Debbie Shirley (Robert) of Sheffield and Denise Lackey (Paul) of Decatur; son, David O’Conner (Stephanie) of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Bobby Shirley (Anna), Molly Wilson (Will), Hannah Kuhr (Will), Will O’Conner, Samuel Lackey (Michelle) and Victoria O’Conner; great-grandchildren, Norah, Walt, Oliver and Simon Shirley, Liam Wilson, and three precious babies to be born in the upcoming months; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Betty’s family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family expresses a deep appreciation to the staff of Keller Hospice.
Her family treasures the memories of her exuberant laughter, vibrant personality, and her joy in serving others. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener. She and Ray have lived faithful lives and are leaving a legacy for their children and generations to follow. Her family rejoices that after a life well-lived, they will be reunited one day.
