Calvin Bertis Blevins, Sr., 94, of Huntsville died Sunday, August 12, 2018. He was born on June 5, 1924 in Bremen, Alabama. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from the University of Alabama in Mechanical Engineering, and worked for NASA for 30 years, primarily on the Apollo program. In his retirement years, he spent countless hours serving his community which included Latham UMC, CASA and Meals on Wheels. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be truly missed by his family and all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Blevins; his parents, Dillard E. and Minnie Blevins; his brother, C. W. Blevins (Stella); and his sister, Iva Nell Sandridge (Bill).
Survivors include his brother, C.A. Blevins (Lola); sons, Calvin Blevins, Jr. (Emily) and David Blevins (Laurie); his grandchildren, Jenny Sollie (Adam), Lauren Nevels (John), Sara Blevins, and Jacob Blevins (fiancee, Claire); his great-grandchildren, Sam Sollie and Emily Sollie; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16th, at Latham United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Sparkman and Dr. Milan Dekich officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.
