The funeral service for Glenda Nell Gortney, age 73 of Lineville, will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Ray Milstead officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Poplar Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Gortney passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native of Santa Rosa County, Florida, but had resided in Clay County since 1951. Mrs. Gortney was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family, grandchildren and friends. She was a homemaker who loved working in her flower garden. Mrs. Gortney attended Shirey’s Mill Church.
She is survived by three daughters: Melinda Wolfe (Terry) of Ashland, Lenastine Lambert (Tracy) of Oxford, and Tammy Creed of Lineville; one son: Robert “Bodie” Gortney (Patricia) of Ashland; one brother: Kenneth Hughes (Mary) of Lineville; seven grandchildren: Brandi, Amanda, Kaze, Aaron, Patrick, Jake, and Kaley and two great-grandchildren: Brennan and Bayne.
Mrs. Gortney was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Hughes and Nellie Mitchell Hughes; her husband, Robert “Bootie” Gortney; one sister, Geraldine Hughes and two brothers, Eric Hughes and Jerry Hughes.
Pallbearers will be Kaze Creed, Aaron Gortney, Patrick Gortney, Jacob Lambert, Michael Jones, and James Griffin.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
