The funeral service for James Howard Price, age 90 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Arnall and Rev. Richard East officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Price passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Clay County Hospital. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Price worked for Bemis Bag Company for over 30 years then worked for Madix Manufacturing Company for another 10 years. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and loved fishing and gardening.
Mr. Price is survived by two sons: Dale Price (Nonnie) of Talladega and Wade Price (Julie) of Ashland; three grandchildren: Elizabeth White (Michael) of Spanish Fort, April Butler (Josh) of Alexander City and Amber Mathew (Abbey) of Bell Block, New Zealand, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Samuel Price and Alberta Conger Price and his wife of 45 years, Ruth Tate Price.
Pallbearers will be Michael White, Josh Butler, Abbey Mathew, Kenny Packer, Reginald Blair, Reggie Blair and Bo Britt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Morris, Elgin Rowell, the nursing staff of Clay County Hospital and Hospice of Clay County.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Mr. Price will lie in state on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
