The graveside funeral service for Margaret Middlebrooks Horn, age 93 of Ashland, will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Clay County Memory Gardens with Rev. Bill Brown and Rev. David Braden officiating.
Mrs. Horn passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Clay County Nursing Home. A Dale County native, she was a former resident of Barbour County and Birmingham. A graduate of the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, she was working as a registered nurse at the Lloyd Nolen Hospital in Birmingham where she met her future husband, Dr. C.P. Horn Sr. After they married, they moved to Clay County in 1948 where she continued to work with her husband until his death in 1989. Mrs. Horn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland.
Mrs. Horn is survived by two daughters: Anne Horn of Ashland and Adelia Horn Braden (Randy) of Wetumpka; four sons: Cecil P. Horn Jr. (Liz) of Hendersonville, TN, Charles Horn (Kathi) of Montgomery, Eric Horn (Mavis) and Franklin Horn (Ellen) both of Ashland; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Foy Middlebrooks and Nobia Wilson Middlebrooks; her husband, Dr. Cecil P. Horn Sr.; one son, Drew Horn; one grandson, Luke Horn; one great-granddaughter, Norah Braden and one brother, James David Middlebrooks.
Pallbearers will be Matt Horn, Drew Braden, David Braden, Larry Morris, Randy Braden and Dwight Sanderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Middlebrooks, Rayford Brand, Dr. David Hensleigh and Dr. George L. Beale.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Ashland.
