FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama and Jacksonville State University might be athletic rivals, but in times of need, the two universities are partners.

On Monday, March 19, a series of tornados wreaked havoc on Jacksonville State University and the surrounding areas. Though the Jacksonville, Alabama-based university’s spring break closure minimized casualties, physical damage to the campus was extensive.

According to officials with JSU, two first-year student residence halls and several academic buildings sustained severe damage. At this time, JSU’s primary concern is the widespread displacement of students residing both on and off campus.

With this in mind, officials with UNA and the UNA Student Government Association are taking action.  Since volunteers are not currently permitted on the JSU campus due to safety concerns, UNA will accept donations on behalf of JSU.

Dr. Ken Kitts

“UNA and JSU have a mutual history of sportsmanship and collaboration,” said UNA President Ken Kitts. “During this difficult time, we are committed to assisting our JSU neighbors and encourage the Lion Nation to rise to the challenge.”
