This is a twofer story.  It is part restaurant review and part concert review.  On March 24, 2018, the 72 Roadhouse hosted Johnny Collier and the Misbehaviors.  I have always wanted to go to a Johnny Collier concert but have never had the chance.  I covered a Collier Concert last year but only go to stay about 30 minutes so I didn’t get to see most of it.

When I heard that Johnny was going to be in Rogersville, I knew I had to go.  The event was to be held at the 72 Roadhouse.  I have never heard of this establishment.  It is located on Highway 72, across from Clark Gas in Rogersville. Earlier in the week, I saw on Facebook that it was being suggested to make reservations, since it was believed to be a sell-out. I made reservations on Tuesday before the event.

Cindy and I got at 72 Roadhouse at approximately 6:30 PM that night.  The place was about a quarter filled.  We were promptly met by the hostess who showed us to our table.  Our waitress appeared and took our drink order.    Looking over the menu, there is a lot to choose from.  Pizza, steaks, chicken, sandwich, desserts and appetizers round out the menu.  We started off with fried pickles and cheese sticks.  The pickles were really good.  The cheese sticks were a pizza crust covered in Cheese.  It was a little different but very tasty.

For the entrees, I had Chicken Tenders, Okra and Mashed Potatoes.  All of mine was good.  The Chicken Tenders were fried to a golden brown.  They brought the Mashed Potatoes in a soup bowl.  Let’s say a very big soup bowl.  Cindy had the Chicken Salad Club.  She was brought a full plate also.

By 7:15 PM, the place was packed.  It appears the reservation idea was a good one.  Sadly, several people left due to not having anywhere to sit down.  Once the band sat up, Johnny began to circulate among the crowd.  This really impressed me.  He went from table to table speaking to the people sitting there.  That shows character on his part.

The show started promptly at 8:00 PM.  If you have never been to a Johnny Collier Concert, you are missing out.  He plays cover songs of Bob Seger, Johnny Cash, Chris Stapleton, George Strait as well as others.  He also plays some of his original music.  One being “You’re Not Famous Until You Make It To The Bathroom Wall.” Couples soon headed to the dance floor to enjoy the music.

One of the things I liked about this concert was that it was a family event. You could bring the whole family and some did.  A good time was had by all.  The food was great.   The music was great.  I would definitely recommend the 72 Roadhouse as well as attending a Johnny Collier Concert.
