Andrew Hunt was born in Winfield, Alabama on March 30th, 1927 and grew up in Brilliant, Alabama. He enlisted in the Navy in March of 1945 and arrived in the Philippines the day after Japan surrendered. He spent seven years in the Navy, Army, and Air Force before leaving to attend Auburn University. After graduating, he was employed by the Alabama Extension Service as a 4-H Club Leader in Shelby County, Alabama with offices in Columbiana, Alabama. In 1958, he moved to Huntsville to establish Andy’s Pest Control, which he operated for 28 years.
Andy was a charter member of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Club, the Better Business Bureau, and the Botanical Garden. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and spending time at his Wheeler Lake House.
He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Asbury Sunday School Class since 1963.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Hunt and Ernestine Roberts Hunt, sisters Jacqueline Christian and Betty Kirkham, and brother Bill Hunt.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Laurene Adams Hunt; Camille Hunt Goldston (Wade), Cecile Hunt (Dominic); grandsons John Amelang (Cheryl), David Amelang, William Amelang; granddaughters Laura Amelang, Sarah Amelang (Alex), and Elizabeth Amelang (Shar); six great grandchildren; and niece Karen Ward (Rufus).
There will be a private burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the visitation and memorial service at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 18th. The visitation will be 2-3pm and the memorial service will begin at 3pm.
