Philip Boss passed away February 27, 2018. He was born on December 7, 1926 in Birmingham, AL, and grew up in Phenix City, AL. He graduated from Central High School in 1944. Phil was a World War II veteran, serving in the army from 1945 to 1946. He graduated from Auburn University in 1949 and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He moved to Huntsville in 1954 and began a career in commercial construction. He retired from Harold Construction in 1992, and then served as the first Executive Director of the North Alabama chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors until 1999. Mr. Boss was presented with the first Eagle Award by ABC in 2004 for lifetime service to the North Alabama construction industry.
He loved the Lord, his family, and his church. He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Trustee, and on every building committee. His other passions were travel and Auburn football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Boss Jr. and Josie Newsome Boss, and his step-mother, Annie Ruth Boss.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret; children, Brian Boss of Tyrone, GA, Nancy Haars (Jeff) of Madison, and Janet Winters (Mark) of Hoover; grandchildren, David, Michael (Shelbie), Sam Haars, Jack (Hannah), Ryan, Kelly Winters, and Jennifer Boss; and great-grandson, Michael Haars, Jr.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The memorial service will follow at the church with the Rev. Hal Oakley and the Rev. David Kling officiating.
