Roger Lee Griffith Sr. passed away at Helen Keller Hospital on Feb. 26, 2018. He lived a very enjoyable life with the exception of the tragic death of his beloved daughter, Grace Jean Brinkley. Roger’s most comforting thought about Grace was that he had loved, enjoyed, and learned from her during her 44 years, and that he would see her again.
Roger graduated as a chemical engineer from Virginia Tech. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and Kappa Theta Epsilon. During his career he worked for several companies and as a private consultant who traveled to many parts of the world. Roger especially enjoyed his work in the old USSR in the 1970s. He received his pilot’s license at the age of 69.
Roger was a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia. He particularly enjoyed the Traveler’s Sunday school class, local mission work, and his mission work in Bulgaria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Juanita Griffith, and brother, Bruce Griffith.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Reba P. Griffith, of Tuscumbia; son, Roger Lee Griffith Jr. (Dida); daughter, Julie Griffith; son-in-law, Bill Brinkley; brother, Barry Griffith (Sherry); sister, Judy Taylor (Karl); sister-in-law, Sandy Griffith; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Brinkley, Samuel Walker, and Rachel Brinkley.
Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Dr. Randy Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Brinkley, Samuel Walker, Andy Taylor, Robert Phillips, Darrel Phillips, Rocky Holden, and Henry Walker Jr.
Roger was a kind man who greatly appreciated all the care given to him in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Evangelical Church in Bulgaria or to Restoration Ranch in care of the First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia.
