Luther Garnet Smith age 87 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Smith was born January 2, 1931 in Bell Buckle, TN to John Doss Smith and Myrtle Nappier Smith.
Services will be Thursday, February 15, 2018 3:00 p.m., at Sardis Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Keenum officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Sardis Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Smith of Athens; two sons, Luther Smith Jr. and wife, Debbie, Dennis Smith and wife, Nina all of Athens; four grandchildren, Luther Garnet Smith III and wife, Amy of Athens, Lindsay Gordon and husband, Jonathan of Athens, Gina Garrett and husband, Travis of Huntsville, and Carla Keathley and husband, Chad of Pelham; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Isabella Smith, Locksley Smith, Jack Clairday, Sam Clairday and Russ Gordon.
Mr. Smith received a Bachelor’s Degree from Athens State University and a Master’s Degree from University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church and Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a retired Cost Analyst and Owner of Century 21 J And L Realty.
Pallbearers will be Travis Garrett, Chad Keathley, Luther Garnet Smith III, Jonathan Gordon, Bryan Smith and Kenneth Patterson.
