Rubye Kathleen Austin McVey, age 84, of Scotts Hill, departed this life early Tuesday morning, February 6, 2018 at Decatur County General Hospital in Parsons, TN.

The widow of William Robert McVey, who died in 1991 after 38 years of marriage, she was a homemaker. She was born Sunday, February 4, 1934 in Scotts Hill, daughter of the late Albert Curt Austin and Merely Mae Creasy Austin. She moved from Scotts Hill to work in Washington D.C. for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint specialist. It was during this time that she met her husband, William Robert McVey, who served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. They married in 1953 and lived all over the country. In the 1970’s she attended Freed-Hardeman College and enjoyed ‘get-togethers’ with her church and her family, whom she loved dearly. Mrs. McVey was a member of Red Walnut Church of Christ in Scotts Hill.

Survivors include three daughters, Lori Ann McVey Lieber (Mark) of Cape Cod, MA, Patricia Brock (Harold) of Yazoo City, MS and Teresa Gwen McVey of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Jeff Alan McVey of Scotts Hill and Robert Curt McVey (Carrie) of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Mary Alice Yarbro (J.L.) of Brighton; a brother, Billy Austin (Linda) of Scotts Hill; and four grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 7 sisters, Barnie Lambert, Colleen Wilbanks, Luedean Austin, Ollie Faye Evans, Irma Dean Austin, Julia Carr and Betty Buczynski; and 4 brothers, Herbert, Charles C., Landon and MacArthur Austin.
